IF JESUS WERE PRESIDENT President Jesus
If Jesus were president
And Gandhi were the Secretary of Defense
They'd teach us non-violence
And decorate our borders with a picket fence

If Jesus came on TV
He'd sing a song of how to love your enemy
Yeah, what a Commander-in-Chief
The generals all would stand around in disbelief

If Jesus were president
And ol' Mother Teresa ran the government
We wouldn't even spend a cent
On bombing other countries, we'd just pay their rent

If Jesus came back again
With Martin Luther King and all the Super Friends
They'd show us Amen to Zen
There'd be no separation between us and them

     He'd give away his throne
     What's the harm there?
     He'd strike a mellow tone
     From his armchair

If Jesus were American
He'd turn the other cheek and take it on the chin
We'd never ever try to win
By hurting other people, isn't that a sin?

If Jesus were president
And Buddha were Philosopher-in-Residence
Then love would be the main event
We'd put away the pistols and the punishments
And start a little civil disobedience
